THE 7 BEST SNACK FOODS
1) Cereal— dry cereal, topped with skim milk and fruit, is both nutritious and easy to fix.
2) Bagels— while bagels contain 160 to 180 calories, they have almost no fat.
3) Pizza— as long as you get very little cheese and lots of peppers, onions, and mushrooms, pizza can be either a nutritious snack or light meal. It’s high in calcium and in vitamin A, B-complex, and C.
4) Fudgesicles— this is a good way to get the flavor of chocolate without the fat. A fudgesicle contains only about 100 calories (the diet version has about 35 calories), compared with as much as 300 calories in the average candy bar.
5) Hershey’s chocolate syrup— this syrup is made with dry cocoa powder and has very little fat. You can make a low-calorie shake by mixing this chocolate syrup in a blender with skim milk and ice cubes. Or you can pour it over low- fat ice milk if you crave a sundae.
6) Popcorn— lightly salted, unbuffered, and air-popped.
7) Dried fruits— apricots, dates, figs, raisins, and prunes all make excellent, healthful snacks.
Soft Pretzels— you can find these in the frozen food sections of most supermarkets, and they contain very little fat.
