ROLE OF MINERALS IN FIGHT AGAINST CANCER

Fluoride and Fluorine

Fluorine is a trace mineral that is found throughout every human bone. Organic fluorine helps to increase the number of blood cells in our body and to preserve a youthful complexion. Fluorine is important for growing children, due to the need for bone and teeth development. Generally foods are rich in natural fluorine. However, due to overproduction from soils, the fluorine content in foods can be low. This is the reason why sodium fluoride was originally added to our water system.

Fluoridated water contains sodium fluoride. If this tap water is taken excessively it has a detrimental effect on the body, reducing its ability to absorb calcium. Some evidence suggests that water fluoridation may be linked to some types of cancer.

Good food sources of fluorine include asparagus, oats, garlic, brown rice, cabbage, goat’s milk, watercress, rice bran, beetroot, endive, corn, barley, millet, wheat, fresh vegetables and fruits.

Germanium

Germanium is a micro-mineral found in nature as a mineral salt. Germanium helps to retard the ageing process and possesses strong antioxidant properties. It is useful in decreasing high cholesterol levels and alleviating pain. Organic compounds found in germanium are powerful stimulants of the body’s immune system and may therefore suppress and prevent some forms of cancer.

Germanium activates resting macrophages and converts them into cytotoxic (killer) macrophages. It also stimulates natural killer lymphocyte activity and the production of suppressor T cells. These unique qualities enable germanium to act as a powerful immune system stimulator.

Germanium is able to activate the body’s utilization of oxygen thereby enriching the body’s oxygen supplies. It enhances the removal of toxic substances and stimulates the production of interferon. Germanium is essential in keeping the immune system functioning properly. A daily intake of 100 to 300mg of germanium per day may improve many illnesses including rheumatoid arthritis, food allergies, cancer, chronic viral infections and elevated cholesterol levels.

Good food and herbal sources of germanium include chlorella, shitake mushrooms, aloe vera, ginseng, comfrey, suma, onions and garlic.

Iodine

Iodine is most commonly known for its ability to enhance metabolism and support the function of the body’s thyroid gland. Iodine is stored in the thyroid gland and its major purpose is to control the metabolism of the entire body.

Iodine has the ability to excrete arsenic from the body and alleviates radiation sickness, especially when it is caused by iodine-131. Iodine deficiency increases the risk of breast, ovarian and uterus cancer. It is able to kill several forms of detrimental bacteria and fungi and is an important mineral in energy production.

Good food sources of iodine include kelp, dulse, turnip greens, watermelon, cucumber, spinach, asparagus, kale, turnip, okra, blueberry, peanuts and strawberries.
